What's new

Every change to Puzzled a player would notice, release by release and newest first. Releases that only changed things behind the scenes are left out.

  1. 11 October 2026 · v1.0.10

Digits land where you type them

    • ImprovedThe daily sudoku's grid no longer jumps down when your first digit lands, and the selected cell's outline sits fully inside the cell from the first click.
    • FixedA digit typed while you were still pressing the mouse on a new sudoku cell went to the cell you had just left, and when it was the same digit, it cleared that cell instead. A cell is now selected the moment you press it.
    • FixedOn 12×12 and 16×16 boards, a 1 waiting for a second digit could vanish if you moved on quickly, and a revealed hint arriving just as you changed puzzles could wipe the puzzle you had left. Both now land on the board they belong to.
    • FixedA tab left open while Puzzled updates now reloads itself, instead of showing the new page with the old styles, which once drew the guide's sidebar over its own text.
  2. 10 October 2026 · v1.0.9

Sudoku lessons, and a guide that walks you through

    • NewSeven sudoku lessons under /how-to-play/sudoku, one technique each, from the last empty square to pointing pairs. Every lesson walks a real position step by step, ends with an exercise you solve yourself, and links to a solo board of the kind it teaches.
    • NewA Playing on Puzzled page beside the lessons covers rooms, the controls, hints and pencil marks, so the guide itself is only about the game.
    • ImprovedThe sudoku guide was rewritten in the lessons' voice: a one-rule first move for beginners, worked techniques you step through with the arrow keys, an On this page list, the common mistakes, and only the questions the page does not already answer.
    • ImprovedLesson and guide boards are larger, take taps, and are one tab stop each, so keyboard and screen-reader users can step through them.
    • FixedThe daily sudoku's clock stops when your tab dies. A crash or a sleeping laptop used to leave it running until your next visit; now it counts at most a minute and a half past the last moment your browser was heard from.
  3. 8 October 2026 · v1.0.8

A daily puzzle, and a page for what's new

    • NewA daily sudoku at /daily/sudoku: one 9×9 a day, the same for everyone, played right on the page with no account and no hints. Easy on Monday and Tuesday, medium midweek, hard on Friday and Saturday, expert on Sunday. Every past day keeps its own page with the solution behind a reveal. Your progress is recorded under you from the first digit you place, so it comes back on any visit, and your solve times are measured by the server.
    • NewThe daily sudoku can be paused. Your clock stops and the grid waits behind a veil until you resume, and coming back later, even after a reload, lands you on the paused board with the same time.
    • NewDaily sudoku on your stats page: days solved, your streak, your best and typical times, and your latest days. Daily puzzles you solved as a guest come along when you register.
    • NewThis page. What's new lists every release in plain words, newest first, and is linked from the footer beside About.
    • ImprovedRoom cards say when a room was last active, in words ("active 5 min ago", "active 2 days ago"), instead of how long ago it was opened, counted in hours.
    • ImprovedThe sudoku guide promises only what the game checks: every board has exactly one solution, a level counts the givens rather than the techniques a board needs, and the free hint finds naked and hidden singles only. When there is no single, a hint fills a square for a 30-second penalty.
  4. 6 October 2026 · v1.0.7

Your board comes back as you left it

    • FixedGoing back to your board after watching the room always restarted your clock, even if you had paused it or already solved the puzzle. A paused board now stays paused, and a solved one stays solved.
    • FixedPressing Next puzzle could briefly show the solved card of the puzzle you had just finished. You now see a loading grid until the new puzzle arrives.
  5. 4 October 2026 · v1.0.6

Watching from your seat keeps your board

    • ImprovedThe standings list the players in the room right now first, with those who played earlier below them; the rank numbers still count everyone.
    • ImprovedBusy rooms do less needless work in your browser each time an update arrives.
    • FixedWatching the other players from your seat and then going back to your own board could lose digits, on screen and in the saved game. Your board now stays exactly as you left it.
    • FixedIn a room, the first click on your profile menu sometimes did nothing. It opens every time now.
  6. 3 October 2026 · v1.0.5

The profile menu opens on the first click

    • ImprovedRooms open faster from the home page, the room browser and the guide: the room's code is fetched while you are still reading.
    • FixedThe profile menu could need a second click before it opened. The first one counts now.
    • FixedThe animated board at the top of the sudoku guide restarted as the page finished loading. It plays once.
  7. 26 September 2026 · v1.0.4

Faster pages and a sturdier server

    • NewSigning up now emails you a link to verify your address, and the profile menu shows when an address is not verified yet.
    • ImprovedThe 12×12 and 16×16 boards are dealt from puzzles prepared in advance, and expert 16×16 is back. Making those puzzles can no longer tie up the server, which once made pages fail to load.
    • ImprovedPages load less and load it sooner: each game's board and guide arrive in their own small pieces, menus and phone panels load when first needed, and the site's files are cached for a year and sent smaller.
    • ImprovedIf drawing a page on the server ever stalls, your browser now draws it instead of showing an error.
    • FixedOn the big boards, the first digit of a two-digit number could vanish when another player's move arrived. It now waits for the second.
    • FixedThe standings keep players who have left the room, so every screen agrees on who finished where.
  8. 17 September 2026 · v1.0.3

    The site icon is back

    • FixedThe Puzzled icon was missing from browser tabs and bookmarks.
  9. 17 September 2026 · v1.0.2

    No more blank pages

    • FixedEvery page could load blank on the live site. They all draw again.
  10. 16 September 2026 · v1.0.0
